Today in a special way, I want to celebrate a fellow countryman. Mbogo Ireri the Winner of Writivisim Literary Award 2108. I participated in this competition as well. I was hopeful that I would win. I did tremendously well. My story was among the 92 chosen out of the 500 submitted short stories by African emerging writers. The news of a fellow Kenyan winning got me elated and over the moon!
Mbogo Ireri is 38 years old and was born in Embu, Kenya. He lives in Nairobi with his wife and son (although currently he is away on a short job contract in Doha, Qatar). He wrote his first short story, “One False Move,” when he was 18 and it was published by BBC Focus on Africa Magazine in 1999. He is a hotelier by profession.

I want to encourage all of us this Monday, that we too can make our Hopes and Dreams come true. It doesn’t matter how long it takes. It doesn’t matter how much you deviate from your writing goals. Keep writing. Keep reading. Your time to shine will come. Who knows, Bushra won The Caine Literary Prize at the age of 60. I have met him. He is old. He is my grandpa. Yet he still achieved. Let’s not tire of submitting even if the replies never come!
As my friend Munachim Amah says “Everyone on this table of life has their space “.
Fight for it!
Lovely week ahead 🙂.
